The first National Defence Capability Development Symposium was held in Canberra on 27 & 28 November 2007. It explored and workshoped issues central to effective capability development including:

• Capability development processes
• Challenges for capability development
• Lessons learned
• Simulation support for decision making

It included 6 workshops or streams and two site visits.
